There are slight differences between Parkour (founded by David Belle) and Freerunning, mainly the training aspect and philosophies, but the basic definition is the same. They are the art of moving your body as quickly and fluidly as possible through your environment. In other words, when you come across a set of stairs, taking the steps isn't the only option, there are railings and ledges to consider as well.
Of course, with the rise in popularity of this incredible art form, we start to see it more and more in film. Did you see Casino Royale, the latest James Bond installment? The entire first chase scene is between Bond and Freerunning founder, Sebastien Foucan.
But just when I thought it couldn't get any cooler, here's a video of the ladies of Parkour...and a fun story to boot.
Oh, and I would be remiss not to point out that my cousin Todd also practices this incredible art form.

This makes me very envious. I want to go out and jump off stuff. Wheee! I wouldn't make it very far though.
I wondered, at the beginning, if she was going to leave the heels on. Now THAT would be a force to reckon with.
fantastic. Only thing is, you'd have to wear trainers all day, every day - because unlike the brunette with long hair, I wouldn't risk scratching my black leather boots. But it sure must keep you fit.
I'll bet you can't WAIT for Mirror's Edge to come out - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror%27s_Edge
Yeah I've seen people doing that. I'm just too timid to even try that. And I'm a clutz so it would not be pretty.
