Tomorrow is the one year mark for Arts and Dafts. I've technically been blogging since 2002, but I kept pigeon holing myself into subjects I would eventually get tired of. A blog about me, a blog about knitting, a blog about entertainment...and so on. I knew I needed one place where I could talk about all my come-again go-again obsessions, art, my life, photography...just whatever I want while still being me. I believe I've finally found that place here.
This week I've been racking my brain on how I want to celebrate this anniversary. Then my mom sent me this awesome
look back post from
Bon Blogs...A Work In Progress and I'm totally going to copy the idea. You should too. It's genius! You simply take the first line from every month of the year. So here I go:
January 2008: First Doodle of the Year
"On the first day of 2008, I sat down with my charcoal for the first time in years." (Incase you weren't around, most of the first posts were my attempt at doing a 365 project with drawings. I didn't end up finishing but I'm still proud of how far I went. Sometimes real life takes over!)
February 2008: Black and White In Color

"I did it." (I was being proud that I finally filled an entire page in my sketchbook. I'm a doodler by nature and tend to only fill small parts of the page)
March 2008: Addicted to Trees

"Honestly, playing with the lines, shapes and shading of a tree is so relaxing and so zen that I just can't stop myself." (Part of drawing for me is about zoning out. For about a week or so, trees were the perfect fit!)
April 2008: My Brain is a Traffic Jam

"So my head feels a little like this photo these days." (This
was a time when I felt like I was starting to fall behind on my
drawings and buried in work at the theater. It was the first time I
realized I had to find a balance between here and there)
May 2008: Longest Week Ever

"I know I haven't been very active lately but it's been a very long week." (May
was the worst month here at Arts and Dafts. I blogged the least, the
big show of the year started and the fella was leaving for 4 months.)
June 2008: Shaping Up!

"Alright, no more excuses!" (June
is the month when I finally started to relax again. I was ok with the
fella being gone for awhile, started reposting my drawings again and
figuring out how to balance my work life with my artsy life.)
July 2008: RabbitRabbit

"Let me start by saying that I don't believe in superstitions but I do believe in traditions." (Just a fun post on the 'Rabbit Rabbit' tradition. If you don't know about it, check out the post. And don't forget to say it tomorrow!)August 2008: Learning to Make Decisions is the Hardest Lesson I'll Ever Learn
"I've come to a fork in the road and as life would have it, it's not the greatest mental day for this to happen." (Really
though, when is a good mental day to think about your place in life?
This is me truly coming to terms with the fact that I want to be
something more than I already am.)September 2008: It's All His Fault, I Swear((No photo or drawing))
"Remember how I promised you funny stories once the fella returned because he's a man and he's ridiculous? "
(This is actually pretty great. September was a good month. Fall was here, the fella had returned and my job was easy on me. The post
is hilarious IMO because I was looking forward to using the fella as
blog fodder but in the end, I'm the one who made an ass of myself. Go
figure!)October 2008: Etsy Wednesday - Cuff 'Em Danno
"I'm kind of a freak for oversized cuffs and when I saw this one, I had to have it." (So
glad an Etsy Wednesday landed on the first of a month. It's been one
of my favorite things to do this year because I love supporting the
amazing handmade goods!)
November 2008: And again at night...

"Whew life really packs it on when you're not looking, eh?" (November
was hectic for all of us. The election was maddening enough, then add
a dose of relatives and work. 'Whew' indeed. Sometimes the best thing
for a hectic schedule is to stick to a theme. This tree became onee
for a minute there. Here's the rest of the shots)
December 2008: Find the time...
"I know I've been a little less personal and little more 'Hey, check this out' lately." (Guilt for less 'me' and more 'look at them'. This is the first photo I took in months that I was super thrilled about.
