Don Hamerman - It runs in the family...sorta

by Don Hamerman

I have been blessed all my life to be surrounded by incredible artists.  My dad is a musician/photographer/computer genius, my mother is the most talented painter/graphic designer I know and my brother is a lyrical and musical master.  I also happen to be blessed with an equally talented godfather, Don Hamerman

Don's had some really great (and well deserved) news in the last couple of days and I would be remiss not to share.  One of his photographs was recently added to the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston permanent collection and another was used for the cover of former pitcher Ron Darling's new memoir.

I would be so thrilled if you would go check out his page on 20x200.  There you can view (and purchase for just $20 if you like) his latest project of found baseballs.  He started gathering them around 2004 in the park near his home when he was taking the dog for a walk.  So what started as a simple collection has become a stunning set of portraits of days gone by.

Each ball is in a different state of erosion and they all allow you to create a story of your own (as you know I love). Who was the last person to hit that ball?  How old is it?  Did someone hit their first homerun or was a dad teaching his kid how to bat?

Plus, the man's just freakin' cool.  Check out his shot of a young Bruce Springsteen:

The Boss

You can see that and other amazing "old school" photos (Patti Smith, Willie Nelson, Joni Mitchell, Michael Douglas, etc) on his facebook.  So friend him!

Those are really cool photos. I like all the textures. I think it would be neat if he had a compilation of baseballs all on one sheet, like a poster. It would have to be big, though, so as not to lose the amazing details. I like the contrast of the white ball on the black background especially.
