A Blue Moon for New Years Eve

moon.jpgA New Year's Eve blue moon will be visible in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America and Africa (in Australia and Asia, the full moon does not show up until New Year's Day, making January a blue moon month for them). Blue moons happen every 2.5 years, but the last time one landed on New Years Eve was 1990.

The moon won't actually be blue, the term means it's a second full moon in one month. I'm not very superstitious, but I'm going to take this as a good omen for the new year, maybe even the whole decade.

Really Glad Tidings

We have a neighbor who goes all out with Christmas displays in the yard. It's so over the top that I've had strangers ask me what's up with them (I don't know the homeowners, so have no answer to that question). Sadly, they are around the corner so this wouldn't work:

La Gioconda or the Mocha Lisa?

A total of 3,604 cups of coffee, each shaded by various amounts of cream or left black, were arranged to form a Mona Lisa. The 20-foot-long, 13-foot-wide work was created by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, for the Rocks Aroma festival, a gathering for coffee lovers in Sydney, Australia.
