This morning I attended the the NYC Creative Morning hosted by the brilliant Tina Roth Eisenberg of Swiss Miss. For those of you who’ve never heard of this glorious eye opener (and eye opener it is because DAMN it’s early), it’s a free-of-charge lecture series for creative types that takes place once a month. The meeting is such a wildly successful idea that multiple cities around the world have started hosting them.
Today’s speaker was none other than Jacob Krupnick, a photographer and creator of Girl Walk // All Day (previously featured here), a 71 minute dance video around New York City to the beat of Girl Talk’s mashup album “All Day” (go get it for free right this instant!).
My morning began looking like this so I had a feeling it’d end up being pretty swell:
This was definitely one of those go-it-alone-and-try-not-to-feel-shy moments. I knew there would be plenty of people flying solo, just looking to make connections with other like-minded souls and I was totally (and thankfully) right. I met a few exciting folks right off the bat. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to sit with a group of your creative peers and speak the same exact language. What a relief.
Jacob’s lecture was inspiring, entertaining and educational. He explained how he came into the idea of Girl Walk, what he was doing before it, the process of creating it and even shared some of his favorite moments up on the screen without the music playing. Afterwards… what else. A 10AM screening/dance party fueled by boxes and boxes of coffee (thanks MailChimp and Fresh Books!)
I can’t wait for my next Creative Morning. I hope to see you there. Really. Be there.
