Etsy Wednesday – Get Your Geek On 10 Different Ways

I love geeks.  I’m a geek.  I grew up with geeks.  I work with geeks. And I love the Geekery section in Etsy.  FYI, I’m not talking the carnival kind (though I wish I knew a few)). I’m talkin’ “a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to
be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of
intellectuality, electronics, etc”

Though I’m starting to think we can take out the ‘peculiar’ and ‘odd’ part of that as geeks quickly become a majority these days.

But hey, you certainly don’t have to be a geek to enjoy these Etsy finds:

Son of Mac Magritte by Lil Decals ShoppeMacbook Decals ($4.99-$12.99)
by Lil Decal Shoppe
I don’t have a Mac, I’m a PC. But I did put an apple sticker over the Gateway on my laptop for giggles. And how perfect is this play on the painting Son of Man (Mac) Magritte?

NES Hard Drive by 8 Bit MemoryNES and Super NES Hard Drives ($109-$169)
by 8-Bit Memory
Dude… this is brilliant, is it not? And so many games to choose from! External drives are available in 320, 500 and 640GB sizes.  There’s also thumb drives and clocks and awesome.

Oxidation T-Shirt by IkyotoOxidation T-Shirt ($15)
by Ikyoto
These hilariously geeky shirts are screen printed with images found in a vintage Japanese science textbook.  You can get Oxidation (seen here), Evaporation and pH Equation.

Microscope Necklace by JL67Microscope Necklace ($24)
by jl67
Ok listen, I’m not a scientist nor do I ever pretend to even have a clue about science… but I really want this mini microscope.  How cute is that?  It will go nicely with the camera pendant I don’t have yet, don’t you think?

Knit Frog Dissection by The Crafty HedgehogKnit Dissections ($125-$150)
by The Crafty Hedgehog
I know what you’re thinking.  “WTF?!,” right? But how could I see these amazing knit dissections and not show them off?  I mean, who comes up with this geekery anyhow? Amazing.

Etsy Wednesday – Lurve is in the air…V-day’s a comin!

Lurve
Birds ParadiseMust Be RaindropsScales Cuff

Although I’m not a huge fan of its overuse on the internets, I am a big fan of Woody Allen’s “Annie Hall”, the first place I heard the word “lurve.”  So what better way to spread the lurve than a nice shiny necklace, eh?

That’s right, this is your official reminder that Valentine’s day is on the way.  Although the fella and I don’t really celebrate it, I know some of you out there are pretty sweet on the big day.  Or have a significant other who is and expects a shiny gift or two.

The pieces in the Katy Scudieri Art Jewelry Etsy shop are perfect. Unique, made from solid sterling silver or karat gold and so much variety you’ll be hard pressed not to find something for your loved one.

Prices range from $25-$400 so there’s something for everyone’s wallet. Head on over and check out the necklaces, earrings, bracelets and words.  The big day is just around the corner!

Etsy Wednesday – A Giveaway!

Black Tie Cuff and Ring
Lauren of Lapis Beach has graciously agreed to be my guinea pig and donate these gorgeous pieces you see above for my first Etsy giveaway!

She creates hand knit jewelry (see the feature post for more) and I get to give you this beautiful matching set (ring and cuff).  Although they’re both covered in gorgeous beads, there’s absolutely nothing clunky about them. They’re comfortable and even appear delicate, though Lauren says they’re very durable.

So how can you win the set?  Read on!,

How to enter:

  • Leave a comment here in this post (here on ArtsandDafts.com).  Doesn’t matter what you say, but more than a “Hello.” would be great.  Feel free to talk about how awesome Lauren is for giving this away!
  • Tweet about it! You
can click the retweet button at the top of this post or write your own
tweet with a link to this giveaway. Then simply drop a link to that
twit in a comment on this post. And while you’re at it, follow me if you’re not already.

Get two entries by completing both options!

I’ll choose a winner at random on Monday, January 18th at 5pm eastern.

They will be contacted via email and a post will be made here on A&D.

Etsy Wednesday – Lapis Beach is Open for Business

Wire Cuff
Black Tie CuffGlam Ocean RingVolcano Cuff

What: Hand Knit Beaded Jewelry
Who: Lapis Beach
How much: $20-$60

I can tell you first hand that these pieces are really gorgeous.  That top photo was taken by me because the lovely Lauren was kind enough to send along a prototype of her wire cuff!  I honestly thought the wire would scratch and/or be too flimsy and bend, but I was way wrong.  I wore it all day to test it out and it didn’t scratch me or fall out of shape.

The bracelets and ring below that?  Well I’m happy to announce I get to giveaway a set of the Black Tie (cuff and ring)  to you in celebration of her Etsy shop opening!

I’ve seen a lot of knit beaded jewelry before, but I have to say Lauren has really mastered the art and created something truly unique. The pieces are durable, comfortable and she really has a knack for color combinations.  (I’m drooling a little over that Volcano cuff pictured bottom right).

Lapis Beach on Etsy is barely one week old today and it’s already off to a running start with a sale before the opening could even be announced. So be sure to enter the giveaway to win a set for yourself, but don’t forget to head over to her shop too.  These one of a kind pieces are sure to move fast!

Etsy Wednesday – Adorable Pendants

Hold Up the Ballloons
Taking a ShowerMuriel with her TurtleneckGuitarist Girl

There are so many wonderful things in the .:mu urban jewelry shop that I had a hard time choosing which pieces to feature. Of course, after seeing the photos above, is it any wonder why I picked them?

I mean, have you ever seen anything like ‘em?

The little girls you see are engraved on sterling silver plates…and yes, they do move by the way, adding an even more interesting element.  They’re only 0.62 inch long and 0.43 wide making them a lot more delicate than they seem.

And what do you pay for such a unique piece of jewelry?  Only $42!

Of course, as I mentioned earlier, there’s much more to be seen in this shop. More pendants, earrings, rings and cufflinks!

So go check it out already!

Etsy Wednesday – Summer Sea Glass

Maliblue Green Sea Glass Necklace
Swirling WatersSeaglass and Beachstone VaseCage Earrings

Summer is officially here and naturally that’s got most of us dreaming of or heading out to the beach.  I don’t know about you but I’ve always wanted to find a piece of genuine sea glass, but in the end I give up the search and head to the local gift shop to grab a handful.  However, oddly enough, I’ve never actually owned a piece of sea glass jewelry.

I know, weird right?

What I love about the beautiful designs in the Sea Find Design’s shop is the range from simple to intricate.  I have a preference for a piece like the necklace on top, but also “ooh” and “aah” over the detailed, sterling silver casings the designer creates.

And as you can see, it doesn’t stop at jewelry.  There’s also vases like the one pictured above and other gorgeous treats for your home.

With prices ranging from $15-$150, there’s definitely something for everyone.  So if you can’t make it to the beach this summer or just don’t feel like seeking out your own piece of sea glass, it looks like you’ve found the right place!

Etsy Wednesday – Birthday Special

It’s my birthday this Friday and I figured this would be a good week to showcase some of the Etsy treats I want all for myself, including some I’ve featured this year already.  I’ve narrowed it down to five, but I gotta tell you…I could have gone on forever!

Ladder EarringsLadder Earrings from the mu urban jewelry shop.
$35.00

I had the hardest time picking any one thing from this shop.  I truly love everything there!  Check out these totally unique rings and pendants!

Shirley Bird in BlackPreviously featured tees from the ellembee shop!
$30.00
100% cotton screenprinted tees

I looove the “shirley bird” (pictured) prints at ellembee but really, I dont think you could go wrong with any of the tops in this shop!

Wide Band RingBrushed Wide Band ring from the Adorn Modern Designs shop.
$40.00
Sterling silver

For years I have wanted a big, fat sterling silver ring for my pointer finger.  Until Etsy, I had no luck finding the right one.  Now I want one for every finger….

Corona Drinking GlassesPreviously featured recycled bottle glasses from Nick Paul’s shop.
6 for $60 or 2 for $20
Reformed beer and soda bottles

I really do need new glasses. Why would I go buy a boring set when I could have these?  Plus, I’m like totally saving the environment.

Victorian DollhouseDollhouse kit from the Victorian Dollhouse shop.
$77.95
Laser cut Baltic Birch wood

I know, this one may seem a little weird, but I’ve been a little obsessed about having a dollhouse lately.  Not only as a unique centerpiece, but for some photography ideas I’ve had floating around in my head lately!
