NYC Comic Con was more than a fun event for me, it was a gigantic learning experience.  Not only was it my first time with a press pass, but I also had to dig deep and find my old courage of chatting it up with strangers.

When I was a kid, I was nothing if not confident and outgoing.  I used to invite perfect strangers to play and apparently I often asked them to come live with us. Then in my later teenage years, my confidence was shot, I stopped trusting people and my motivation began to dwindle.  I like to blame it all on one really bad ex-boyfriend, but the bottom line is...that's just a crutch.

So Comic Con was my big test.  I pushed myself to make introductions, walked up to people I'd never met before and reminded myself that I am by no means a shy person.  What was the end result?  I met some of the most fascinating people I've ever come across.

Sure, the back of my head was still yelling insecurities, but the more I met new folks, the easier it got.  My confidence slowly came back.

And just think, if it hadn't, I never would have met the amazing Liz Baillie, I never would have flirted with Ed Westwick and I never would have known about the incredible artists I passed by.

Speaking of artists, be sure to check back soon for a feature on Christy Kane (pictured above).  Her dolls are absolutely gorgeous!  They're all handmade and she even does special requests!  I'm only waiting to feature her because her Etsy was cleared out for the convention (because the dolls were with her).  For now go check out ChristyKane.com.

Oh, and a shout out to Harry, a great guy I met on line for the "Dollhouse" panel.  If it wasn't for him, I would have gone crazy sitting in line for 2 hours!   Check out his blog: Hal9209.com.

One of the main reasons I wanted a press pass to the NYC Comic Con was to be able to feature some of the fantastic artist's who put their work on display there. Particularly anything unique...and of course, just a touch daft.

When I came across the Entophilezzz! table, I knew I'd found an instant winner.

When co-creator Michelle was in college, she had a homework assignment that had her putting "two completely incongruous words together."  When she came up with "butterflies and high heeled boots," her brother Peter saw an opportunity, and thus Luulay Inc and their first line of t-shirts, The Entophilezzz!, were born.

When I asked if there were any other plans for the gorgeous little bugs, Michelle told me a web comic was in the works. I'm really looking forward to this.  You really have to head over to the site and see the ladies for yourself. They're brimming with personality and there's definitely a story to tell.

Until then, you gotta go snag a t-shirt.  I saw them up close and in person and they're awesome.  The artwork is beautifully done and truly unique.  You'd be hard pressed to find anything else like them.

And if you happen to be at the NYC Comic Con, head over to booth #2830 and get one there.  They're also selling some adorable "funderwear" and some lip balm (bug balm) which I got to sample myself and it's delish!

Setting up for Comic Con 2009 (by RGP)

I knew it would be wise to grab my press pass early due to large crowds tomorrow, but I thought maybe it would be better to wait than brave the cold.  However, the apartment downstairs was recently vacated and to get ready for the new tenants, they not only painted the walls... but also polyurethaned the hardwood floors.

Polyurethaned.  The whole apartment.

And left without cracking the windows.

So yesterday my office smelled like the inside of a zippo and this morning it was no better.  Sure, we kept our windows open for as long as we could stand, but it soon became a battle of what's worse: freezing to death or fume headaches.

Fume headaches won because as it turns out, open windows make no difference.  It was like having a lighter fluid ice cream headache.

So yeah, that pretty much made the decision for us. We HAD to get out of the house. The fella and I bundled up and ventured over to the Javits Center to snag our NYC Comic Con badges early and check out the goings on.

Apparently the fumes were still with me because I stood on line for my press pass...for the fabric convention.

Seriously.

That was embarrassing.

Yada yada yada, I eventually got my pass, did a little dance, showed the fella around (he's never been there before) and took a few shots of the convention floor as they were getting prepped.

My favorite were the signs that tell you to watch out for fork lifts (can't see them in this shot).  I'm pretty sure the signage was there just for me because I'm brain dead enough not to notice a giant yellow fork lift with say...a life size batman on it...before it hits me.
