- I'm pretty sure artist Gina Osterloh has managed to finally inspire my interior design brain. I've had this blank wall in my bedroom for years now. I'm thinking post-its and streamers. Yeah? via: BOOOOOOM

Pledge to this week's featured Kick Starter and help an artist keep a long term promise to his mother.
How can you resist this one? Rick Pierce made a promise to his mom when he was 16 that he would take care of her 1972 Super Beetle as he grew up. So far, he's managed to do so. However, as you can imagine, over the years it's gone from old to older to just not workin' anymore.
I'm sure you've guessed by now what this Kick Starter is asking for, but I'll tell you anyway. Rick wants to get the ol' clunker back up and running again and that takes a good chunk change.
$2,000 is the goal and (as with every Kick Starter) you get a little something depending on how much you pledge. You can get a couple fun little things for $10 and under, but the real prizes (besides knowing you helped out of course) start at $50+.
Pierce is a graphic designer and he will design an advertisement for you at $50, design a logo for $100, album cover or letterhead package for $250 or an entire site for $500 (limited to 10 people). So basically, you're not just helping a guy's dreams come true, you're getting an insane deal on some professional graphic design for your brand/site.
Dude.
FYI, before you wonder if he's planning to sell the car or anything like that, check out the Kick Starter page for some FAQ. The short of it, he's gonna keep it for his family and pass it on to the next generation.

The work of Helen Musselwhite is truly inspiring. I not only want to own one of these pieces, I want to run out to the store and get some construction paper to play with!
Helen, based in the UK, hand cuts her illustrations out of paper and creates these beautiful scenes by stacking them in complex layers. Some are mounted in box frames and others, as you see here, are housed in glass jars.

- Anatomy is natural art right? So why not mimic it in glass like Tsunami Glassworks has with these Ventricle Vessels? I definitely gasped upon first glance. via: 72dpi

What did I say when I saw this set? "Whoa." That's what I said. Laz Marquez has created this extraordinary set of re-imagined Hitchcock posters. I tease you with my favorite (because "The Birds" terrifies me still...in a good way) and insist you go look at the rest of his poster work.

It's that time of year again...time for Layer Tennis! I wrote a post last year on what it's all about so check that out. In short though, it's a 10 round live competition between two artists swapping layers and making something new every time. In the past it's focused mostly on design, but this year there's typography and photography manipulation as well.
Check out the beginning and end of the last match where two typographers duked it out:

This week, a match after my own heart where two photographers (Sam Javanrouh of Toronto and Naz Hamid of San Fransisco) "shoot and upload a live dialogue of photos from their respective cities." There's also commentary that follows the competition from a neutral party, however this time Mark Greenberg of Mayfair Recordings will be composing a score to go along.
Amazing.
Get going! The match has begun! And be sure to keep checking back for future bouts.

I find myself so overwhelmed with the day to day sometimes that when I actually sit down to create (when I make the time...which I must make more of as well), I'm totally blocked. Or even worse, totally indecisive.
Thankfully the web has become an incredible source for inspiration. A couple of clicks and I have a new idea or two. (The key is not to get too distracted of course.)
There are probably thousands of resources on the web about how to battle a creative block so I'm gonna go ahead an make a little list for you. Now you can skip the Googling and get to the creating.
You're welcome.

I've kept it pretty quiet, but you should know A&D is in the middle of a pretty big overhaul. In the coming months you should see a complete redesign, some new features, the works. Part of that is coming up with an official logo.
I'm really lucky to have a design minded mom who has a great eye for this stuff and she's been working her ass off on the new logo. However, I found myself getting curious about what it takes to design one. In my adventures (ie - Google searching) I've come across some extremely helpful tutorials and websites devoted to the art.
Do you have a logo? Have you ever designed one? Planning one for the future? Keep reading for a great bunch of logo design resources:

I'm actually really glad I just came across PixelGirl Presents and the incredible collection of wallpapers they have there (they also have icons and iphone wallapers). I realized after browsing for a bit that I haven't changed my desktop background in ages. Isn't that some kind of computer sin? Anyhow, for now I've chosen the top one you see above. However, after perusing, I think I might be changing it up a little more often. There are so many delicious options. What's your favorite?

I've been a jeans and t-shirt girl ever since twirly skirts stopped amusing me and I realized playing in the dirt was a lot more fun when I wasn't wearing a dress. So over the years I've collected tons of tees from various thrift stores and ex-boyfriends, but now as I get a little older, I find my taste is changing.
I don't like to wear my old shirts with funny slogans and blow-pops on them (yes I have one of those) anymore and wearing nothing but solid shades gets a little boring too. So when I came across these unique designer tees from Ellembee, I realized "Ah ha! That's exactly what I've been looking for!"
Lisa draws all the beautiful and simple designs, then screenprints them on to super comfy tees with water-based, environmentally friendly inks. The inks come out soft and get even softer with wash and wear and she promises years of life for your tee.
It's not just tshirts though! You can get longsleeve, tank tops, hoodies, jackets, dresses/skirts, scarves, sleepwear and even baby onesies!
Do I even have to tell you to go check it out?

You've gotta see all the photos of this amazing office space by Iwaan Ban. Needless to say...I want to go to there.
