It's a very drab and dreary Wednesday here in NYC so I thought I'd simply try and lighten the mood with some beautiful photography featuring bokeh found on Etsy.  We could all use a new print on the wall, right?

For those of you who don't know, bokeh is derived from the Japanese word "boke", meaning 'blur.' In photography it refers to "the creative use of lens blur as a composition."  Enjoy.

Who doesn't love a plushy doll?  The heartless I imagine.  Well, as much as I like to pretend I'm a cold and calculating... woman, I'm a sucker for plushies and other stuffed huggables.  You will be too after you take a gander at this collection.

I went to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens yesterday to see the cherry blossoms and nab some inspiration.  If you've read my previous posts, you know I'm neck deep in code trying to get the new redesign working, and well there's just not a lot of creativity involved.

Sadly, the cherry blossoms weren't all out yet, but I did get my annual first Robin sighting of the spring. So I guess I got a little bit of that inspiration I was looking for...

Please excuse the lack of words this week.  I have, what we call around here, "code brain."  I think it's similar to being a zombie.  So.. ooooh, pretty pictures.

Holy cow, spring really snuck right up on me.  Probably because I spent the transition month in a dark theater, but still!  All of the sudden I look out my window and there are buds on the trees, birds chirping in the morning and people are trading in their winter coats for...well smaller jackets.

You know I'm not much of a girly girl, but I do love a good flower. Or bouquet of flowers. But we gave those up when we got a couple of super curious cats.  So here's some Etsy options to keep some... less edible flowers in your life.

Floral Wall Art Decals ($9.95 - $139)
by Surface Flik
FYI, it's not all giant wall pieces in this shop. They've also got tiny little accents. Like this sprout or a rose in a bottle. Clever, unique and gorgeous. I wonder if I can wear them like tattoos?

Kisslock Clutches & Totes ($33-$107)
by Briana E.
This is an incredibly gorgeous collection with designs for everyone.  However, the seller had me at 'go with jeans.'  Sometimes I need people to tell me I can be a little girly.  P.S. check out these birdies!

Origami Bib Necklaces ($17-$55)
by Babinka 1981
Ok, these are a little bizarre, but don't you love looking at them?  Plus Babinka offers a PDF tutorial on how to make your own!  For the more traditional, there are also floral brooches, hair pins and more.

Floral Lumbar Pillows ($30)
by Mi Casa Bella
It's shops like these that make me wish I "kept house."  Nothing matches in my apartment, but I might start if I had a set of these.  There are a ton of color options, as well as larger throw pillows.

Little Flower Earrings ($18)
by ZSB Creations
These come in so many varieties, you'd be hard pressed not to find just the right pair.  I personally love these red ones and the black.  I wonder if they tickle?

I'm really into stackable rings these days and this gorgeous, tone fading set is perfection!  7 too much? There's also sets of 5 as well as a bunch more beautiful jewelry in this shop!

Milkshake Moo Card Necklace - $50
3Squares
Ok, now this I gotta have! Seriously, gotta have.  First you have to know what a Moo card is, then you'll see how absolutely genius this idea is.  P.S. My birthday is totally coming up.

Brazilian Ebony Handcrafted Guitar Pick - $12.50
Nuevowoodcrafts
Not something your average guitar player would splurge on since picks tend to disappear so quickly, so why not gift one to your musical friend? They also have keychain versions!

Real Framed Dragonfly - $24.99
Real Butterfly Gifts
If you're not into insects then this might not be your thing. If they don't bug you, then check out this incredible collection of framed butterflies and more (all raised on cruelty free farms...who knew?)

Dipping Dish - $18
Hope Johnson Ceramics
Just the other day I was wishing I had something for dipping. No joke.  I'm always using a giant bowl for tiny jobs.  So how perfect are these?  Tons of designs offered in the shop...

Lurve
Birds ParadiseMust Be RaindropsScales Cuff

Although I'm not a huge fan of its overuse on the internets, I am a big fan of Woody Allen's "Annie Hall", the first place I heard the word "lurve."  So what better way to spread the lurve than a nice shiny necklace, eh?

That's right, this is your official reminder that Valentine's day is on the way.  Although the fella and I don't really celebrate it, I know some of you out there are pretty sweet on the big day.  Or have a significant other who is and expects a shiny gift or two.

The pieces in the Katy Scudieri Art Jewelry Etsy shop are perfect. Unique, made from solid sterling silver or karat gold and so much variety you'll be hard pressed not to find something for your loved one.

Prices range from $25-$400 so there's something for everyone's wallet. Head on over and check out the necklaces, earrings, bracelets and words.  The big day is just around the corner!

a train from 175th st
Self PortraitAt Mars BarJoan of Arc

Who: 2nd Coming Illustrations
What: Art Prints and Greeting Cards
How Much: $4.50-$48

It's always a treat when I can not only showcase some art I truly love, but give props to a local NYC gal.  I had the pleasure of meeting this fantastic artist on Indie Junction and absolutely had to share her work.

You really do need to see the rest of her shop.  What I've featured here just scratches the surface.  There's a fantastic sense of humor to her work that will really make them a unique piece for your home.

The prints, on acid free paper with long lasting Viviera ink, are all reproductions of her hand drawn and digitally colored illustrations.  There's a signature on the back of each one as well. The greeting cards are done with the same care on high quality, heavyweight stock with blank insides.

So why not go support an artist today and snag yourself a print?  Hmmm?

Wire Cuff
Black Tie CuffGlam Ocean RingVolcano Cuff

What: Hand Knit Beaded Jewelry
Who: Lapis Beach
How much: $20-$60

I can tell you first hand that these pieces are really gorgeous.  That top photo was taken by me because the lovely Lauren was kind enough to send along a prototype of her wire cuff!
I honestly thought the wire would scratch and/or be too flimsy and bend, but I was way wrong.  I wore it all day to test it out and it didn't scratch me or fall out of shape.

The bracelets and ring below that?  Well I'm happy to announce I get to giveaway a set of the Black Tie (cuff and ring)  to you in celebration of her Etsy shop opening!

I've seen a lot of knit beaded jewelry before, but I have to say Lauren has really mastered the art and created something truly unique. The pieces are durable, comfortable and she really has a knack for color combinations.  (I'm drooling a little over that Volcano cuff pictured bottom right).

Lapis Beach on Etsy is barely one week old today and it's already off to a running start with a sale before the opening could even be announced. So be sure to enter the giveaway to win a set for yourself, but don't forget to head over to her shop too.  These one of a kind pieces are sure to move fast!

Caroline
Cupids HeartLouiseHonor

Who: Janine Basil
What: Handmade hats
How much: $40 - $500

How can you resist these?  I mean seriously...how?

Each of these hats is completely handmade by Janine using beautiful fabrics and embellishments. You can see for yourself how truly unique each one is so you know you'll be getting a one of kind creation.

I love the little Cupids Heart.  In fact, she has a whole section set aside for Valentine's day.  They're all curved to fit your head, have a piece of elastic or are attached to a headband and have been lined with polyester felt to keep from slipping off your noggin.  So why not make your V-Day a little snazzier?

You should also know I had the pleasure of connecting with Janine via Indie Junction and she's a wonderful gal.  That sweetens the pot a little, doesn't it?

And don't forget, even if you can't buy today, head on over and fave her shop and/or let them know you're a fan.  It's always inspiring to know you have fans!
