I love geeks.  I'm a geek.  I grew up with geeks.  I work with geeks. And I love the Geekery section in Etsy.  FYI, I'm not talking the carnival kind (though I wish I knew a few)). I'm talkin' "a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, etc"

Though I'm starting to think we can take out the 'peculiar' and 'odd' part of that as geeks quickly become a majority these days.

But hey, you certainly don't have to be a geek to enjoy these Etsy finds:

I know what you're thinking.  "WTF?!," right? But how could I see these amazing knit dissections and not show them off?  I mean, who comes up with this geekery anyhow? Amazing.

Lurve
Birds ParadiseMust Be RaindropsScales Cuff

Although I'm not a huge fan of its overuse on the internets, I am a big fan of Woody Allen's "Annie Hall", the first place I heard the word "lurve."  So what better way to spread the lurve than a nice shiny necklace, eh?

That's right, this is your official reminder that Valentine's day is on the way.  Although the fella and I don't really celebrate it, I know some of you out there are pretty sweet on the big day.  Or have a significant other who is and expects a shiny gift or two.

The pieces in the Katy Scudieri Art Jewelry Etsy shop are perfect. Unique, made from solid sterling silver or karat gold and so much variety you'll be hard pressed not to find something for your loved one.

Prices range from $25-$400 so there's something for everyone's wallet. Head on over and check out the necklaces, earrings, bracelets and words.  The big day is just around the corner!

Black Tie Cuff and Ring

Lauren of Lapis Beach has graciously agreed to be my guinea pig and donate these gorgeous pieces you see above for my first Etsy giveaway!

She creates hand knit jewelry (see the feature post for more) and I get to give you this beautiful matching set (ring and cuff).  Although they're both covered in gorgeous beads, there's absolutely nothing clunky about them. They're comfortable and even appear delicate, though Lauren says they're very durable.

So how can you win the set?  Read on!,

How to enter:

  • Leave a comment here in this post (here on ArtsandDafts.com).  Doesn't matter what you say, but more than a "Hello." would be great.  Feel free to talk about how awesome Lauren is for giving this away!
  • Tweet about it! You can click the retweet button at the top of this post or write your own tweet with a link to this giveaway. Then simply drop a link to that twit in a comment on this post. And while you're at it, follow me if you're not already.
Get two entries by completing both options!

I'll choose a winner at random on Monday, January 18th at 5pm eastern.

They will be contacted via email and a post will be made here on A&D.

Wire Cuff
Black Tie CuffGlam Ocean RingVolcano Cuff

What: Hand Knit Beaded Jewelry
Who: Lapis Beach
How much: $20-$60

I can tell you first hand that these pieces are really gorgeous.  That top photo was taken by me because the lovely Lauren was kind enough to send along a prototype of her wire cuff!
I honestly thought the wire would scratch and/or be too flimsy and bend, but I was way wrong.  I wore it all day to test it out and it didn't scratch me or fall out of shape.

The bracelets and ring below that?  Well I'm happy to announce I get to giveaway a set of the Black Tie (cuff and ring)  to you in celebration of her Etsy shop opening!

I've seen a lot of knit beaded jewelry before, but I have to say Lauren has really mastered the art and created something truly unique. The pieces are durable, comfortable and she really has a knack for color combinations.  (I'm drooling a little over that Volcano cuff pictured bottom right).

Lapis Beach on Etsy is barely one week old today and it's already off to a running start with a sale before the opening could even be announced. So be sure to enter the giveaway to win a set for yourself, but don't forget to head over to her shop too.  These one of a kind pieces are sure to move fast!

Hold Up the Ballloons
Taking a ShowerMuriel with her TurtleneckGuitarist Girl

There are so many wonderful things in the .:mu urban jewelry shop that I had a hard time choosing which pieces to feature. Of course, after seeing the photos above, is it any wonder why I picked them?

I mean, have you ever seen anything like 'em?

The little girls you see are engraved on sterling silver plates...and yes, they do move by the way, adding an even more interesting element.  They're only 0.62 inch long and 0.43 wide making them a lot more delicate than they seem.

And what do you pay for such a unique piece of jewelry?  Only $42!

Of course, as I mentioned earlier, there's much more to be seen in this shop. More pendants, earrings, rings and cufflinks!

So go check it out already!

Maliblue Green Sea Glass Necklace
Swirling WatersSeaglass and Beachstone VaseCage Earrings

Summer is officially here and naturally that's got most of us dreaming of or heading out to the beach.  I don't know about you but I've always wanted to find a piece of genuine sea glass, but in the end I give up the search and head to the local gift shop to grab a handful.  However, oddly enough, I've never actually owned a piece of sea glass jewelry.

I know, weird right?

What I love about the beautiful designs in the Sea Find Design's shop is the range from simple to intricate.  I have a preference for a piece like the necklace on top, but also "ooh" and "aah" over the detailed, sterling silver casings the designer creates.

And as you can see, it doesn't stop at jewelry.  There's also vases like the one pictured above and other gorgeous treats for your home.

With prices ranging from $15-$150, there's definitely something for everyone.  So if you can't make it to the beach this summer or just don't feel like seeking out your own piece of sea glass, it looks like you've found the right place!

2 Liter Soda Bottle BraceletRecycled Bottle Fish Bone Earrings

It's the last Etsy Wednesday of April's "Going Green" theme and I think we're going out with a bang with this truly unique jewelry from Artwork by KD.

Kathy uses her background in art and jewelry classes to carefully create and compose each piece of jewelry.  Her mediums of choice are plastic bottles and aluminum cans which makes every piece really light weight, even the larger ones.

The bracelet you see above is made out of a 2 liter soda bottle and each circle was cut completely by hand (as with every piece)!  Best part? Only $11!

The earrings on the right are cut from a plastic bottle, measure just over 2 3/4" long and 1 1/2" at the widest point. These?  Only $10!

In fact, almost everything in the store is under $15 so you really can't lose here.  Oh, and she also uses recycled materials (magazine, food boxes, brown paper bags) as packaging and shipping material, so this is truly an earth friendly shop.

PodNesting Instincts
photographs property of J2Jewelry

Honestly, when I saw this weeks Etsy find my first thought was "Holy crap!"  I wanted to share a photo of every piece in the J2Jewerlry shop, but I figured I'd save some for you to go check out yourself.

The "Pod" on the left is the first piece I saw.  Made of silver and freshwater pearls, and as the creator says, "It's classic, subtle, and tailored to work beautifully for several occasions."  Also, it's customizable.  You can have up to 5 pearls! (Just give them some extra time to make the order).  Would you believe it's only $48?

The necklace on the right, "Nesting Instincts", is the second piece that caught my eye as I scanned the amazing shop.  The shop owner says, "It just wants a good home and to provide you with inspiration." You know how I love inspiration.  It's features "3 speckled eggs" inside a nest of antique brass wire and it's only....$30!.  As with the "Pod", each one is made to order and totally unique!

Don't stop at these two though, you have to see the rest.  Check out this customizable guitar pick pendant, this adorable felted acorn pendant, the funny "Master of Disguise" mustache necklace (check out how you can wear it!) and this beautiful Honeycomb pendant.  It doesn't stop there so be sure to view the shop!

So, what's your favorite piece?

Hammered Moon Secret Poetry NecklacePoetry Bangle
photographs property of Delias Thompson

There's still plenty of time to get your orders in for the holidays and what better surprise than these totally unique and customized pieces of jewelry? The best part?  They're both under $50!

The necklace on the left is called the Hammered Moon Secret Poetry Necklace ($35).  The pendant is made of sterling silver and has been hammered out for texture and to create it's interesting domed shape.  The words are meant to be worn on the back (hence "secret poetry"), but of course you can flip it if that's more your style.  You can have your own 37 character customized saying inscribed!  (Heads up, the creator says only periods may be used as punctuation).

The bangle ($48) on the right is also customizable up to 100 characters.  Want more?  Delias Thompson also offers a two-sided bangle!  This bracelet measures 2.5" in diameter, but if that's not the right size they'll happily make one to fit.

Because of the customization, they need 7-10 days to process the order so get to shopping!

The rest of the Delias Thompson shop has some absolutley stunning jewelry, so don't stop at these two beauties.  Check out the rest!

Hope BirdcageHope Birdcage Worn

Today I thought it only appropriate to do a "black Friday sale" search on Etsy and this shop was one of the first to pop up.  We all know it's one of those years when unique, handmade and cheap are a must for most of us during the holidays and though this shop might not have the cheapest stuff in the world, one of Below 14th's amazing handmade pendants would be present enough for me.

I had a hard time picking one to feature, I truly love everything in the shop, but when I saw this birdcage and then saw how big it actually is (photo on the right), I fell instantly in love.  It's made entirely by hand out of 20 gauge silver wire with a "delicate copper heart" hanging in the middle.  All that work for only $76 sounds like a bargain to me.

Oh, and it comes with the chain.

Everything at the Below 14th shop is handmade.  Including this awesome and truly unique Hangman pendant made out of sterling silver, this Classic Tattoo pendant, this beautiful silver cuff, a Dali inspired pendant and way more.

Oh, and like I said, it's all on sale for Black Friday so go snatch 'em up fast!  Prices vary in the shop, so chances are you'll find something that suits your budget.

Coal RingCoal Ring on Finger
photographs property of Etsy shop gemmafactrix

Believe it or not, there are only 49 days left until Christmas and seeing as how we all hate waiting until the last minute, it's time to start showcasing some unique gifts so you can shop now before it's too late.

Why not start off by putting some coal in someone's stocking?  Okay, these rings aren't really made of coal, but they look like it and that's what they're called.  Coal Rings.  They're actually made of sterling silver that's been patinated (the process that gives them that aged and shiny look) and then hammered for texture.

What's most unique and interesting about these rings is how they're stackable.  The artist refers to them as "stacking rings" and they can be worn alone as a single, all together (like the photo) or even mixed and matched with some of her other rings

Oh, and this set is only $60 which seems a steal for a perfectly handcrafted set of rings, but if that's too much, some of the sets run as low as $14.

This shop has some truly beautiful jewelry including bracelets, earrings, necklaces and more.  I highly suggest you check it out and if you know anyone with a ring fetish like me, you really must check out the entire collection in gemmafactrix's shop.

Beetle Insectus Ring by edmdesigns

It's safe to say my jaw just about hit the floor when I saw this extremely detailed ring by edmdesigns.  It doesn't stop their either, there are 43 rings currently available in the shop.  Also Steampunk inspired cufflinks, necklaces, earrings, bracelets and more.  The attention to detail is astonishing.

I'd love to see what this actually looks like on a hand.  Definitely not for the jewelry shy as it measure 1.5" in height.  Yowzers!

"This is a fabulous Steampunk ring is designed using a beetle insect blank form to which a 17 jewel vintage Swiss watch movements has been mounted. Great detail and even greater conversation piece. Awesome UNISEX design."

This particular ring costs $65 and overall prices in the shop range from around $35 - $100.  I'd also like to point out that a lot of this shop owner's work is gallery worthy, having appeared on display across the states and in New York City (where the designer, Ricky, is based).

Tree On Purple Pendant Bird On A Wire Tree on Pink Crazy Daisy Orange Daydream Peeking Green Flower White Tree Red Bird on Branch Mod Tree on Blue Pray for Sun Blue Daydream Pink Birdie
Last week I asked you to send me some of your Etsy finds and one reader, Elisa of Unlikely Housewife, introduced me to these fantastic pendants from Madison Craft Studio!  The moment I saw them, I knew they were perfect.

In fact, there are so many great pendants, I couldn't decide which one I wanted to highlight, so I made a little collage.  It's an image map so mouse over the ones you love and click to get to their pages.

With 187 items in the shop and nearly 10,000 sold, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that you're going to find one just right for you.

Each pendant is made of origami or similar paper and then decoupaged onto a 1/8 inch piece of masonite.  Most of the square pieces measure 1.25 x1.25 inches.  The rectangular pendants are 3/4 x 2 inches.

I wear a lot of black for my job (and just in general) and I can't help but swoon over the idea of adding a little color with one of these gorgeous and unique pendants.  The prices range from $4.50 to $7.00 and at the price so I might just have to get a handful!
